Types of Pipes

There are several kinds of materials used in piping. Some of the most common ones include:

• PVC pipes: Best for cold water applications. 
• PEX pipes: Good option for hot and cold water piping in residential retrofits. 
• Copper pipes: The best choice for hot or cold water use. 
• CPVC pipes: Often used as a copper pipe replacement in residential plumbing. 
• Galvanized pipes: Mostly used for irrigation applications, like well pumps and water supply lines.

One of the biggest differences between pipe solutions is the use of a coating. For example, galvanized steel pipes have a zinc coating, whereas black piping does not. The latter is perfect for gas because the zinc coating found in galvanized pipes eventually flake off and clog gas regulators.
