C Channels vs. MC Channels: Know the Difference
The selection of channel beams we offer comes in many stock lengths and different dimensions. Our product listing follows the AISC criteria. Here is a breakdown of each different shaped channel:
C Channels
C channels provide a shape that includes a wide web with two flanges that come out from each side of the beam. The flanges are not parallel. These types of beams are commonly used for several architectural applications.
MC Channels (AKA Junior Channels)
As compared to C channels, which have tapered flanges, the MC shape (also referred to as junior channels) is different because the flanges are parallel and flat. The “MC” stands for “miscellaneous.”
Since they have flat flanges and are made of strong steel, they’re commonly used for structural supports in projects like ships, car frames, and stairs.
